More than one hundred Old Malton locals, along with tenant farmers and staff of Eden camp rallied together last Saturday to protest against a controversial application made by Harmony Energy.
Organised by Howard Johnson, Eden Camp’s financial director, and Paula Peace, its managing director, along with passionate tenant farmers Robert and Emma Sturdy, who started the ‘Save Old Malton Countryside campaign’ almost two years ago, the protest was organised to raise awareness of Harmony Energy’s development plans and to discuss the disastrous impact that the proposed siting will have on the surrounding area, population, and farming community.
During the meeting, Howard Johnson spoke in front of the Heritage Hall. The local community was also taken on a tour of the Old Malton countryside after it was revealed exactly where the MW battery storage system could be installed. Within the proposed development plan, 72,000 solar panels are said to dominate 130 acres of prime farmland, 110 acres of which, have been taken care of by the Sturdy family at Eden Farm for three generations.
Addressing the public, Mr. Sturdy stated: “It’s so important people see and hear for themselves the scale and the potentially devastating impact this application will have on our local businesses and countryside. We are incredibly grateful to all those who came down to Eden Camp and our Farm and ask that people take the time to object.”
