Next month, women in York affected by cancer are invited to sign up for a new community programme which offers a welcoming space to move, connect and support their wellbeing, whatever stage of the cancer journey they’re facing.
Organised by Moving Minds, Reclaim is a 12-week programme founded on a growing body of evidence which shows that movement can play an important role in supporting people affected by cancer. Elaine Harvey, Founder of Moving Minds, said: “We created Reclaim because movement has a unique ability to help people reconnect – with their bodies, with their emotions and with one another. It isn’t about learning dance routines or being physically fit. It’s about creating a safe, welcoming space where women can move in ways that feel right for them, rediscover confidence and experience the joy that movement can bring.”
Unlike traditional exercise classes, Reclaim uses gentle, creative movement that can be adapted to every participant’s needs and energy levels. Elaine added: ”Our hope is that every woman affected by cancer knows there is somewhere she can come exactly as she is. Whether she’s seeking gentle movement, meaningful connection or simply an hour where cancer doesn’t define the conversation, she’ll find a warm welcome at Reclaim.”
The first Reclaim session will run on 9 September from 7.00pm-8.30pm at St Aelred’s Community Centre, YO31 0PN.
