Ben’s Book Corner: March 2024

In winter it can be so easy to sit under the covers on a day off and endlessly scroll Facebook and Instagram. Instead of doing that, here are some of my favourite thought provoking reads from the past year that will no doubt keep your mind active and engaged.

Billy No-Mates by Max Dickins

This was my first book of 2024, and what a book it was! When Dickins entertains the idea of proposing to his girlfriend, he realises he doesn’t have a best man. He then delves into the world of male friendships, and why they don’t seem to last.

Road Ends by Mary Lawson

Road Ends follows the story of one family in Struan— a small, quiet, unsuspecting town in Canada— as they grow up and grow apart. With twists and turns, and journeys across the world, where will all the siblings and their parents end up? Toronto? London? Even further afield?

The Haunting of Alma Fielding by Kate Summerscale

Based on a true story, this book follows a famous 1900s ghost hunter, by the name of Nandor Fodor. When he comes across a woman claiming to be haunted by a poltergeist in London, he must investigate. You’ll be needing to sleep with the lights on after reading this one.

Lady Almina and the Real Downton Abbey by The Countess of Carnarvon

This book tells the extraordinary story of Lady Almina and her lost legacy from Highclere Castle. You may know it as the backdrop for the iconic Downton Abbey, but what are the stories and secrets behind the castle that we have all come to know and love? Find out all the dark, glamorous, and exciting tales here!
