Llama Mollo get Utterly Fuzzled!

By Tom Campbell

Local teenage indie kids, Llama Mollo, got off to a great start as they played their first-ever live gig last month! With only a handful of live performances under their belts, busking around York city centre with an acoustic guitar, amp and microphone, Llama Mollo impressed with a similar set-up at Fulfordgate Club.

As part of the wonderful Utterly Fuzzled events, which host independently run (indie) bands on occasional Saturdays at the former working men’s club in Fulford, Llama Mollo wooed local onlookers, regular Utterly Fuzzled attendees and a boisterous band of friends and family supporting the duo on their landmark debut gig.

Llama Mollo is the brainchild of Laurence Marshall, a 17-year-old songwriting sensation from the area, who plays guitar alongside the beautiful vocals of Poppy, an equally precocious Llama. They met at York College and are tipped by musos to be “ones to watch” in 2027. They played an acoustic set of original numbers at Fulfordgate, with songs including “Visage”, “Inconspicuous” and “Against The Wind”, the latter being joint-penned with Poppy. For the last song, “Blooshoos”, Laurence swapped from acoustic to electric guitar, upping the tempo with a drum machine, bringing in vibes of later John Squire guitar work to complement his Ian Brown-esque vocals.

Whilst being incredibly original creatives, Llama Mollo take their cue from a range of influences, from the 1960s (Johnny Cash / Bob Dylan) to The Cure, The Stone Roses and 80s/90s indie bands. Look out for these two young Llamas around venues in York soon, and keep an eye out for the splendid Utterly Fuzzled nights at Fulfordgate!
