FOOD REVIEW: COSY CLUB

 By Sophie

I was lucky enough to visit Cosy Club recently with my mum and sister, to try out their Graduation Menu. Whether you’re celebrating a recent graduation or simply looking for a great meal in the heart of York, this popular Fossgate eatery offers a lovely way to mark any occasion.

The special Graduation Menu offers a choice of two or three courses, along with a complimentary glass of prosecco. From the moment we arrived, the staff were incredibly friendly and attentive, making us feel welcome and ensuring we had everything we needed throughout our visit.

The striking 1920s-inspired décor of the building (which was constructed in 1911 as the Electric Cinema, the first purpose-built cinema in York), added plenty of charm and character to the experience. With walls filled with paintings, vibrant colour and a great collection of beautiful statement lighting pieces, the space felt warm and welcoming, creating a relaxed atmosphere and a great setting in which we could kick back, settle down and enjoy our meal in style.

To start with, I chose the Korean Fried Buttermilk Chicken. Perfectly crisp and full of flavour, it was served with a gochujang glaze, daikon and carrot slaw, garlic aioli, crispy shallots and lime. Everything was well seasoned, and I found the dish to be an excellent start to our meal.

For our main courses, my sister and I both ordered the Cosy House Burger, while my mum chose the King Prawn and Smoked Salmon Linguine. This lip-smacking burger had everything you could want: a succulent beef rib patty topped with a house bacon jam and mizuna, served in a delicious brioche bun, along with a choice of fries or salad. Naturally, we went for the fries! The flavours worked brilliantly together, with the bacon jam being a particular highlight.

The linguine was lovely and creamy, without being cloying or overpowering the delicate flavours of the smoked salmon and king prawns. It was flavoured with lemon, basil and chilli flakes, and beautifully garnished with toasted pine nuts, which added a crunchy and unexpected texture to the dish.

For dessert, we tried the Dark Chocolate Mousse and the Brûléed Miso Caramel Custard Tart. The mousse was rich, chocolatey and creamy, accompanied by luscious honeycomb and a decadent clotted cream ice cream. Our favourite, however, was the Brûléed Miso Caramel Custard Tart, a distinctive and delicious dessert that combined rich caramel and smooth custard on a scrumptious shortbread base. Served with vanilla ice cream, it offered the perfect end to a thoroughly enjoyable meal!
