York Maze has revealed that its 2026 giant maze design will celebrate the 100th birthday of legendary broadcaster and naturalist Sir David Attenborough.

When the attraction opens in July, visitors will be able to explore a huge maize maze featuring a giant image of Sir David surrounded by some of the iconic animals seen throughout his much-loved nature programmes.

Farmer and Maze Master Tom Pearcy said:
“We are announcing the theme a bit earlier than usual this year to coincide with Sir David’s 100th birthday today. Each year we choose a topical theme for the maze design. I grew up watching David Attenborough, he is an icon of British broadcasting and I’m honoured to make my contribution to his 100th birthday celebrations.”

“Over a million maize seeds have been planted in the 15 acre field. We will cut the image into the field once the plants start to emerge, then when the crop is fully grown by mid-July the image of David Attenborough will be revealed in the maze of pathways.”

The Sir David Attenborough: 100 Years on Planet Earth Maze will be open from Saturday 11 July until Thursday 3 September 2026, before the crop is harvested later in the year.

Families visiting the attraction will be challenged to navigate the maze and discover six viewing platforms, along with special photo points featuring life-size models of animals inspired by Sir David’s programmes. Visitors who find all of the animals will also have the chance to win a prize.

Created by local farmer Tom Pearcy, York Maze spans 15 acres and has become one of the region’s most popular family attractions since first opening in 2002. This year marks Tom’s 24th maze design, following previous themes inspired by The Gruffalo, Star Wars, Doctor Who, The Lion King and more.

Alongside the giant maize maze itself, visitors can also enjoy more than 20 rides, attractions and shows, including Crowmania tractor trailer rides, Jurassic Maize, Volcorno climb, Corn Snake Tower slides, House of Cornfusion and Corn on the Cob crazy golf.

York Maze will be open daily from 10am to 6.30pm, with last admission at 3pm. All tickets must be booked online in advance. For more information visit York Maze.
