Your Local Link had the pleasure of dining at Giggling Squid recently, and we can confidently say it was one of the best meals we’ve had in the city for years – a true Thai gem in the heart of York!
From the moment we walked in, we were blown away by the stunning interior décor; the space is vibrant, full of character, and beautifully floral, making for a relaxed yet elegant atmosphere.
The service was equally impressive, with John in particular going above and beyond to make us feel welcome and looked after.
To start, we shared the Duck Spring Rolls and Caramelised Pork Belly—both were absolutely delicious! The pork belly in particular just melted in the mouth and was packed with rich, savoury flavour.
For our mains, I went for the Melting Beef Curry with fresh Coconut Rice—a perfect combo. The beef was unbelievably tender, coated in a deep, flavourful red curry sauce that I didn’t want to end. My girlfriend chose the Penang Curry with Jasmine Rice, and she couldn’t stop talking about how it was the best curry she’s ever had!
We also shared a side of Crispy Chicken, which was perfectly spiced and seriously addictive. To drink, I had an ice-cold Singha Thai beer, and my girlfriend had the Lady in Pink cocktail, a refreshingly balanced mix of Aluna Rum, Tequila, Cointreau and Pink Grapefruit – it was the ideal pairing for the meal.
Thai food has always been my go-to, and Giggling Squid nailed it on every level, from flavour and authenticity to atmosphere and service. Honestly, this experience felt like the closest thing to actually being in Thailand – I’ll absolutely be back soon, with the whole family!
