Gripping novels to keep you cosy this winter.
By Ben Robinson
With Winter here, I thought I’d give you some of my favourite reads for those dreary winter days. — the ones where you sit in front of the fire, hot chocolate in one hand, and a book in the other.
‘Normal People’ by Sally Rooney –
If you want to feel all the emotions this winter then this is the book for you. When Connell and Marianne strike up a connection in high school — little do they know that will be a life-changing moment. It’s truly a perfect coming of age novel, full of heartbreak and romance as these brilliant young adults struggle to find their place in the world.
‘The Tale of Beatrix Potter’ by Margaret Lane –
Even though she wrote the beloved Peter Rabbit series, few people know the story of Beatrix Potter’s life. This biography is full of twists and turns that are sure to pull you in from the very first page. Once you’ve finished the book, the ‘Miss Potter’ film is also well worth the watch — it brings the events of the book to life in a magical on-screen tale.
‘Loch Down Abbey’ by Beth Cowan-Erskine –
When an Earl is found dead under peculiar circumstances while a mysterious disease is rapidly spreading across 1930s Scotland, a mystery is afoot! With no one allowed in and out of the house because of the disease, the only suspects are those upstairs and downstairs! If you’re a Downton Abbey fan on the hunt for a murderous drama, then this is the read for you!
