York community swimming pool saved from closure by New Earswick fundraisers

A 25-year old swimming pool has been saved from closure by the fundraising efforts of Friends of New Earswick Swimming Pool (FoNESP). The charity raised £50,000 — enabling them to complete the installation of new boilers.

FoNESP Chair of Trustees, Andrew Calverley said “The response has been phenomenal. Many people generously supported us with donations, and we received a number of grants too. We’re really thankful and appreciative of everyone who supported us.”

Since opening in the 1960s the pool quickly grew into the community institution it is today. Considering it still operates 12 hours a day, seven days a week, closure would have seriously reduced residents’ access to regular exercise.
