What’s YOUR opinion on the Heronby project?

Previously shelved proposals for a new community and housing settlement south-west of Escrick, Heronby, have been unearthed and revitalised, with residents presenting their views on the project at a public exhibition this October.

Taking its name from the ancient woodland Heron Wood, over half of the Heronby site would be green space, including a country park comprised of nearly 50 hectares (that’s the equivalent of 70 football pitches, 24 times the size of Selby Park!). Aside from approximately 3,500 new homes, which the developer says will be targeted to the younger ‘limbo generation’ of potential first-time buyers and those who may struggle to get on the housing ladder, the project would also see the introduction of three new schools and a health centre, plus new shops, leisure facilities and play areas.

Proposals also include park and ride access and a cycle hub, offering ease of commuting and travel within the community by foot, bike, bus or car.

Ahead of the submission of a finalised planning application, to be presented by the end of this year, Heronby project developers are now seeking the opinions of local people to help shape the plans.
