By Nicola & Pippa
My 6-year-old daughter, Pippa, and I had the most wonderful morning at Dreamery Gardens York this month. We spent a few hours exploring the woodland paths, searching for fairies and goblins, and discovering all the magical surprises hidden throughout the gardens…

If you’ve ever wanted to step into a real-life fairy tale, this is definitely the place to visit!
From the moment we arrived, Pippa was completely captivated. As we wandered through the trees, she looked around in amazement and said, “Mum, we’re in a secret garden full of sleeping fairies in their pretty fairy houses. It’s magical!” Hearing her say that made the whole experience even more special. It was wonderful to watch her imagination come alive as she carefully searched for tiny fairy doors, peeked into fairy houses, and wondered who might be living there.
There were so many thoughtful and creative details to discover along the trails. We loved spotting the dragon nests, mysterious swamps, and beautifully decorated fairy houses, many of which included lights and sound effects that made the woodland feel even more magical. Pippa’s favourite character was Jenny Greenteeth, who fascinated her from the moment she found her. Every twist and turn revealed something new, so the walk never felt repetitive, and there was always another surprise waiting just around the corner.

I also really enjoyed reading about the folklore along the route. It added another layer to the experience, and was just as interesting for me as it was for Pippa! The paths were well maintained and easy to walk, making this a relaxed adventure that’s perfect for families with younger children.
Another real highlight was the maze. It was Pippa’s very first time tackling one, and although she admitted she felt a little nervous before we went in, she absolutely loved the challenge. Watching her confidence grow as we found our way through together was such a lovely moment, and she was so proud when we reached the end.
We also spent time exploring the small museum, which was full of charming treasures and interesting displays… there’s also a magical surprise hiding in the wardrobe!
Before heading home, we stopped in the tearoom for a delicious hot chocolate, which was the perfect opportunity to sit down, relax, and chat about our favourite parts of the morning. The friendly atmosphere made us feel very welcome and rounded off our visit perfectly.
All in all, we found Dreamery Gardens York to be a magical place that encourages children to use their imagination while giving adults the chance to slow down and enjoy a tranquil, peaceful woodland setting.
