The York Mystery Plays Festival is back, bringing its unmissable, historic theatrical spectacle to the streets of York on Sunday, 28 June and Sunday, 5 July. There will also be two Twilight Lantern Performances held in the Shambles Market, and a special York Mystery Plays Supporters’ Trust performance of The Journey to Calvary on Saturday, 4th July at The Bar Convent.
For this year’s mystery plays, the eleven core plays performed will include The War in Heaven (Laura-Elizabeth Rice/HIDden Theatre), The Creation (The York Guild of Building), The Massacre of the Innocents (D Space Ukrainian Theatre Company/The Build of Scriveners), and The Crucifixion (York Settlement Community Players/The Company of Butchers). We’ll also see a host of special performances, talks and trails unveiled as part of the 2026 York Mystery Plays Fringe…
