Poor Things: Former York College student wins an Oscar

York College Events

Following in the footsteps of the legend that is Dame Judy Dench, a former York College student became the latest former city-resident to win an Oscar this March.

Nadia Stacey, who studied at York College from 2004 to 2006, picked up the Best Makeup and Hairstyling award for her work on the movie Poor Things, ironically she looked anything but while waving the 13-inch gold trophy around the stage!

Even though she’s has had a successful career that’s taken her all-over the world, with stints on Harry Potter and Marvel films, as well as some a little closer to home, like the hit TV drama Downton Abbey, Nadia still has a really close relationship with her former tutors in York.

One those tutors, Sharon Barrington, said, “We extend our heartfelt congratulations and will be drinking a lovely cup of Yorkshire Tea to celebrate.” Although, if any of our Your Local Link alumni ever make it to the Oscars we reckon a Gin and Tonic might be a more fitting beverage!
