Phase 2 of Lowfield Green development is now underway

The Lowfield Green development, which aims to provide affordable new-build, low-carbon housing in the heart of Acomb, has now entered its second stage. Following the successful completion of Phase 1, with the first residents moving into their new homes at the end of last year, Phase 2 of the development is now underway, supported by funding from the Nationwide Foundation and the York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority.

Residents will now see the introduction of six 2-bedroom flats accessible under a Mutual Home Ownership Scheme, with members of the Lowfield Green Housing Co-op owning a single mortgage collectively. An agreement is in place between YorSpace and City of York Council that residents most in need of housing will be prioritised for allocation; this includes first-time buyers, potential buyers with a connection to York or the YO24 postcode, current homeowners in need of a larger living space, those looking to downsize, and homeowners who do not wish to profit or own a second home. The six new flats will be sold at 70% of their market value, and protected from speculative sale, ensuring that the local community has much-needed permanent access to affordable housing in one of our city’s most in-need areas.
