Poppleton Village Show 2026

The Poppleton Village Show has a long history. The Ancient Free Garden Society was formed in 1839 and was still going strong in 1877 and the records show a vegetable and flower show in the Red Lion in 1890. In the late 1920’s the Poppleton branch of the Women’s Institute organised a flower, vegetable, fruit and handicrafts show. In 1958 the Poppleton Garden Guild was formed, buying seeds and compost in bulk and passing the savings on to the members and the first Garden Guild Show was held in August 1959 and the show carried on till 2015, when the Guild closed and the Village Show started.

The show this year takes place at the Upper Poppleton Green on 15th August.

There are entry classes for flowers, fruit, vegetables, floral art, handicrafts, baking, first timers and children under thirteen. No entry fees and cash prizes to be won so get a programme and have a go or visit the show website www.poppletonvillageshow.uk

Free programmes are available in the Community Centre, Library, Lord Nelson, Lord Collingwood, White Horse, Allerton Drive shops and Coffee on the Green at the Methodist Church.

Fruit and vegetable exhibits in All Saints Hall, flowers, handicrafts, floral art and baking in the new Methodist Hall. Come and see all the entries.

Other events on the Green are the Spud and Beetroot in a Bucket weighing, the Shepherd Brass Band, a fun dog show, the classic car display, stalls and animal petting.

The show runs from 12.30 -17.00.
