York residents are now invited to present their views and opinions to a public consultation focused on proposals for a major new housing development, which could see around 350 new homes built near Osbaldwick.
The homes, of which 30% would be designated as affordable housing available via affordable private rent and shared ownership, would be built on land east of Metcalfe Lane, north of Murton Way, and south of Bad Bargain Lane. The proposed development would be placed just south of an already approved development of up to 380 homes by Taylor Wimpey. According to developer Barratt Redrow, “the proposals would provide a mix of new homes, alongside new green space, children’s play areas, trim trails and cycle and walking routes”.
Key views towards the city of York, and of the beautiful York Minster, would be protected under the proposals, which would also see the creation of a green network to link the Barratt Redrow development with the neighbouring Taylor Wimpey homes. As part of the ST7 strategic allocation outlined in York’s Local Plan, the scheme is intended to offer affordable accommodation for a wide range of people in the community, including older residents, families, first-time buyers, and existing homeowners looking to downsize.
