York’s very own Anna, Great British Sewing Bee champion and St Leonard’s Hospice retail team member, recently unveiled a beautiful range of upcycled outfits to mark Recycle Week 2026.
Our Anna was one of 12 creative contestants to throw their hat into the ring for the latest series of the popular BBC show, which sees stitchers, sewists and seamstresses battle it out for sewing supremacy. In the Grand Final, which 4,294,400 viewers tuned into, Anna pipped fellow finalists Beth and Emma at the post with a colourful, unique design inspired by the lifecycle of the damselfly, reducing one of the judges to tears! Ahead of her big win, Anna had also racked up a hat-trick of ‘Garment of the Week’ accolades in previous episodes.
A selection of the champ’s upcycled outfits were subsequently shared by the St Leonard’s Hospice team for Secondhand September and Recycle Week; these include pieces crafted from preloved curtains, men’s shirts, bedsheets, and even tablecloths found in a local St Leonard’s Hospice shop!
