Don’t miss Eimaan Culture and Community Services’ upcoming events

One of the things that makes our city such an extraordinary place to live in is the welcoming attitude of everyone you meet. As a result, it can sometimes be easy to forget that what underpins that inclusive attitude is the hard work organisations like Eimaan Culture and Community Services do to build support between our communities. They organise appropriate events and opportunities, provide lived experience expertise, and deliver cultural awareness training to improve wider understanding in the community.

In doing so, they ensure that underrepresented groups have access to the support they need. If you’re looking to learn a little more about some of the lesser-known communities that make York so special, make sure to check out some of their upcoming events.

The first of these is Rebuilding Lives – 50 Years of Ugandan Asians; a historical exhibition celebrating the legacy of the 27,000 people of Asian descent that rebuilt their lives in the UK after they were expelled from Uganda in 1972. It is touring schools and public spaces around York throughout the rest of the year. Then on the 27th of March, you can Celebrate Africa Day by joining a local artist to create special cards. Next is the York Eid Party on the 27th of April— an afternoon of henna, traditional food, tai chi, music and more. Finally, on the 22nd of September is the multicultural York Health and Art Mela festival.

Entertainment and activities will showcase everything York has to offer, from local school choir-singing to Bollywood dance! Alongside the entertainment and great food, there will be information stands from the NHS and Arts sectors.
