Cultural Passports for Young People programme launched

A landmark new grant programme, which aims to give young Yorkies aged 11 to 18 free access to a wide range of creative and cultural experiences across the region, is now live!

The Cultural Passports for Young People initiative was developed by City of York Council, supported by the Mayor of York and North Yorkshire, David Skaith, and funded by York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority. Pete Kilbane, Executive Member for Economy and Culture at City of York Council, said: “The aim of the Cultural Passport programme is to energise and inspire young people and open doors into a creative world that would otherwise be closed.  We are looking for projects that enable them to discover new skills, allow their imaginations to flourish and open opportunities for a life, and possibly a career, immersed in culture.”

Arts, culture and heritage organisations that would like to contribute to the programme through the delivery of activities can now benefit from funding, enabling a generation of young people to build their cultural capital and experience a plethora of rich cultural experiences on their doorsteps along the way.

North Yorkshire Council’s executive member for culture and arts, Simon Myers, said: “This is a great opportunity to get young people more involved in arts, culture and heritage activities which could inspire them to follow a career in the sector.

Visit www.culturalpassportyork.co.uk to find out more or apply for funding. The first phase of applications closes on 24 August. If you’re unable to submit a proposal this time round, keep your eyes peeled for the next phase, expected to open in spring 2027.
