Ben’s Book Corner: February 2024

Usually, I’d go for a monthly theme, but in the spirit of February and trying new things (indoors) while the weather’s still awful, I thought I’d give you a selection of four books, from four different genres. That way you’re more likely to find the book for you. No pressure…

Timecode of a Face by Ruth Ozeki

Ozeki challenges herself to stare at her reflection for three hours. She details all her thoughts and feelings throughout these three hours. From reflections of her childhood to realisations she is having— it turns out spending three hours with your reflection is quite the revelation. It is simply fascinating to read.

Bossypants by Tina Fey

One of my favourite genres is autobiography, and Tina Fey does not disappoint with this one. Fey, who is one of the biggest names in comedy, takes us through her journey in the world of entertainment. The ups, the downs, and the outright hilarious. This book is sure to make you laugh out loud.

My Name is Lucy Barton by Elizabeth Strout

This is one of my favourite novels of the past year. The book tells the story of Lucy’s return to her hometown during the final weeks of her life. She spends those precious final days reconnecting with her previously absent mother. The novel tells the complex but loving tale of mother and daughter relationships. A perfect novel to get you back into reading in 2024.

Uncanny by Danny Robins

Fancy a spookier read for 2024? For people who want to dabble in horror then this is the book! Uncanny tells real life paranormal stories and looks at them from the eye of sceptics and believers. It is sure to keep you on the edge of your seat. You’ll need to sleep with the lights on after this one…
