The local stamp experts are pleased to introduce their new mascot – Phil Atterly.
Phil makes an appearance on a special year for the York Philatelic Society as they are currently celebrating their 70th anniversary. Founded in September 1948, they will celebrate the occasion at a buffet on Tuesday 26th June, starting at 7pm, at their usual meeting place, The Priory Street Centre in Priory Street (off Micklegate).
They have put together an exhibition of stamps from around the world which were issued in
1948, and stamps of later years commemorating events of that year. They are also pleased to unveil the
Anniversary mascot – a little cartoon chacter called ‘Phil Atterly’. Phil has been created
by artist Jo Claire, who lives in Malton. He is modelled on a red definitive 1st class stamp and, being a good Yorkshireman, he’s wearing a flat cap.
York Philatelic Society meets at 7.30pm on the second Tuesday of each month, excepting August, with an exchange and bourse starting at 7pm. Visitors and friends
are always welcome.
