York’s own “Hardest Geezers” to take on charity coast-to-coast ride

Seven local heroes will undertake a mammoth effort to raise money for The Brain Tumour Charity later this month.

Inspired by one of their best friends Paul Firth, who was diagnosed with a rare grade two Oligodendroglioma tumour in March 2023, the group will embark on an inspiring journey from Blackpool to Scarborough, cycling coast-to-coast in just three days, from May 25th to May 27th.

Despite facing numerous challenges, including an awake craniotomy, six weeks of radiotherapy, and ongoing chemotherapy, Paul remains steadfast in his fight against this disease.

In true testament to his character, not only will Paul be accompanying the peloton in their support van, but also hopes to join in for at least some part of the ride!

One of the cyclists, Simon, Paul’s best friend, understands the battle all too well. Having undergone his own brain tumour diagnosis in 1996, Simon has since recovered and embraced a full life, fuelled by his passion for cycling.

“It’s about supporting Paul and raising awareness,” says Simon. “This ride is a testament to his strength and the strength of everyone battling brain tumours.”
