The city of York has been named on an elite list — of just 119 cities out of nearly 1000 around the globe— by the non-profit Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) for the second year in a row.
The CDP rank the cities that demonstrate the highest commitment to “bold leadership on environmental action as well as transparency, despite the pressures of a challenging global economic situation” each year on a scale of D- to A. Because of York’s successful climate action plan and the council’s willingness to disclose of their city-wide emissions inventory, they were awarded with a place on the A list — a position that just 13% of CDP ranked cities achieve.
The CDP say that A-List cities “report four times as many” climate focused actions than their non-A-list counterparts. This achievement is something that a spokesperson for City of York Council said, “demonstrates that York is a global leader in climate action.”
