York Disability Week 2025: Promoting an Equal, Inclusive and Accessible York

Back for its ninth year, York Disability Week 2025 will host over 30 in-person & online activities, with mostly free events ranging from sports activities to exhibitions and talks. With opportunities to create, learn and connect, this week has something for everyone! Running from 29th November to 6th December, the week-long programme of activities celebrates the United Nations International Day of Persons with Disabilities on 3rd December here in York.

Get active with sessions such as wheelchair rugby, accessible football, tennis, gym and dance lessons, inclusive rambling, and more! These sessions are free during the week, with the opportunity to keep attending if you enjoy it! If you’re looking to make friends, find a new hobby or try something new, this could be great for you.

If arts and creativity are more your style, try a singing and signing choir, or the ‘Not a Book Club’ group – you could even get into woodworking! There will also be workshops exploring creativity for building self-advocacy skills, and these opportunities are perfect for connecting and building confidence creatively.

Get advice at drop-in sessions across the week, learn about your rights as a carer, hear about Direct Payments, meet other disabled people (including parents) over coffee, or discover the opportunities on offer for people with Parkinson’s in York, and much more!

Talks and discussions include disability advocate and theatre director, Stephen Unwin, on learning disabilities; digital technology’s successes and challenges; mental health stories; eugenics past, present and future; energy-limiting conditions and more! With exhibitions from York Explore, and the prize giving for an international art competition, there’s so much to learn and see all week!

Discover what York has on offer for you by touring York City FC’s accessible stadium, or attending the Information Fair, where you can meet statutory and voluntary organisations working to improve the lives of disabled people in York, and ask any questions you may have!

Whether you are disabled yourself, a family member, PA or carer, looking to make your business more inclusive and accessible, or just interested in learning more and meeting new people, York Disability Week has something for everyone. Come along to enjoy our range of activities and events!

By participating, you’ll be joining a movement to foster a more inclusive York!
