York City FC have secured the services of Aiden Marsh and Will Smith on loan, whilst Alex Hurst has left the club.
Incomings
York City captured forward Aiden Marsh on an initial one-month loan deal from Barnsley on the 21st of September.
The youngster has already made a promising start to the 2023/24 season, scoring 7 times in 6 games for Barnsley’s U23s. This included a hat-trick in their 4-2 win over Swansea City in August.
Marsh has also made three appearances in League One, recording an assist in a 2-0 win at Wigan Athletic last month.
The 20-year-old forward first joined the South Yorkshire club in October 2014 from Sheffield United, before working his way up in the youth-team set-up at the club, which saw him earn his first professional contract in September 2020.
Four days later York City announced the capture of Harrogate Town defender Will Smith on another one-month loan deal.
The 24-year-old arrives at the LNER Community Stadium to bolster defensive options across Neal Ardley’s backline.
Initially starting his youth career at Barnsley, Smith took up a scholarship in 2015 and won Academy Player of the Year for the 2015/16 season.
Smith won the FA Trophy with Harrogate at Wembley in May 2021.
Last season, the defender linked up with Scunthorpe United in February 2023 until the end of the season after initially joining on a one-month loan.
He made 13 appearances for the Iron, becoming the first Scunthorpe centre-back since Izzy Iriekpen in 2008 to score in three consecutive games.
It’s no surprise that Neal Ardley opted to bring the centre-half to the club, last season he made a name for himself by netting against the gaffer’s former side Solihull Moors.
Outgoings
York City completed a deal with Macclesfield FC for the permanent transfer of Alex Hurst on the 27th of September.
Hurst made 38 Vanarama National League appearances for the Minstermen, netting twice during that period, since signing from Port Vale for an undisclosed fee in 2022.
