York charities looking for local volunteers

If you volunteered for the first time during the pandemic, then you’re not alone. According to the National Council of Voluntary Organisations, 4.6 million people volunteered for the first time throughout the pandemic.

Volunteering has always been a force for change and positive impact, but for many of us, it’s the past year that has brought home just how powerful it can be.

We wouldn’t be where we are today without the millions of volunteers (existing and new) who delivered food parcels, rolled out vaccinations and helped their local communities.

And it doesn’t stop now. There are hundreds of charities and organisations looking for volunteers to join their teams and help them make a real difference in the world.

If you’ve got time to spare, why not use it to make a difference to your local community? You could get to meet new people, gain skills, enhance your CV and pick up experience that would make you stand out from a crowd. For some, the best part will be genuinely helping someone when they need it. In 2019, the National Council for Voluntary Organisations recorded that 42% of volunteers did so to ‘improve things or help people.’

Volunteering also allows you to discover skills and abilities you didn’t know you had – and put existing skills to good use whilst improving them. Perhaps you’ve got a knack for talking to people? Maybe you’re just a total pro in the garden and would love to share your horticultural knowledge.

Either way, the good news is that if you’re feeling inspired and are ready to have a go at volunteering, there are lots of organisations in York that would love to have you on board.

Why not have a look through the gallery for the latest vacancies in York and get in touch.
