Tourist attraction Barley Hall are in the running for an international award, after being named Best UK Hidden Gem in the Remarkable Venue Awards, run by global ticketing platform, Tiqets.
This revelation comes after the incredible news that a host of York’s businesses (including some of Your Local Link’s brilliant advertisers) were nominated for the 2023 Visit York Tourism Awards, proving York’s continued presence on the national stage as one of the country’s best-loved cultural hotspots.
The Remarkable Venue Awards are determined based on over 1.6 million customer ratings and reviews on Tiqets.com in the last 12 months, with the winner selected from a shortlist by a panel of eight tourism experts from each of the international regions represented. Barley Hall beat some of Britain’s best— in City Cruises Poole, Thames Rockets, Frameless and Windmill Lane Recording Studios to win the award.
“This is brilliant for Barley Hall, which truly is a hidden gem of York – only to be found by venturing down a snickleway from Grape Lane or Stonegate,” said Lisa Woods, head of communications and marketing for Barley Hall’s owner, York Archaeology.
“We’re really hoping that the UK gets behind this award”
“We’re now up against six other international hidden gems, from The Tulip Experience in Amsterdam to The View at The Palm in UAE – and this is where we need the help of our UK fans, as the final decision rests on a public vote!”
“We’re really hoping that the UK gets behind this award – last year’s international winner was Hidden London by London Transport Museum, and we’d love the accolade to remain in this country,” adds Lisa.
All York residents are encouraged to get out and vote as soon as they can, this award represents a chance to prove that York is not only one of the best cities in England — but that it is one of the best to visit in the world!
The public have until 3 October – just over a week away – to vote for their favourite, and can register their vote here. The winners will be announced at the Tourism Innovation Summit in Seville on 18 October.
