A host of iconic local businesses (including some of Your Local Link’s brilliant advertisers) have been nominated for the 2024 Visit York Tourism Awards. The winners will be announced at a glittering ceremony at York Racecourse next Spring.
There are 16 awards to be won — celebrating York’s best in tourism, hospitality and culture — across a huge range of categories, from the city’s finest large hotel of the year to the best days out and experiences— there’s even an award for the best newcomer. The range of categories means that every section of York’s bulging tourism industry are in with a chance of taking something home. Smaller nominees like The Wizard Walk of York, The Bar Convent Guest House and York Army Museum, will have the opportunity to receive deserving plaudits alongside the City’s bigger venues.
There’s a festival category for seasonal attractions like Hallowscream and an award for larger scale everyday attractions such as the Yorkshire Air Museum, National Railway Museum, City Cruises and Castle Howard.
The Grand Hotel wasn’t left out either and was in fact nominated in two categories — for the best large hotel alongside Middletons, and in the Taste of England award for its Legacy fine-dining experience — where they’ll compete against Ate O’Clock.
These awards are a huge mark of progress for the city — as category winners will all go on to compete nationally at the Visit England Awards for Excellence 2024 awards — to vie for the crown of the country’s very best attractions. York already has an impressive track record on the national stage, only last year Middletons Hotel’s General Manager, Adam Wardale, took home the national Unsung Hero Award in the Visit England Awards.
The Potions Cauldron on The Shambles is another deserving nominee — vying to win the Retailer of the Year category.
Sarah Loftus, Managing Director of Make It York, said: “We’ve had some really strong applications this year, across the board. A huge congratulations to our finalists who have been announced today, and who have demonstrated excellence in their sectors. The Visit York Tourism Awards celebrate the countless organisations who work tirelessly year-round to deliver the best experiences for visitors and residents, we look forward to celebrating their successes and achievements at the ceremony in March.”
