Stepping up, but don’t worry it will become secondary nature

Calling all parents! The time has come to ship out the sprogs to secondary school.

Apologies for the crude call to arms, clearly I have no children and there is every chance I am in fact a large hairy child myself. But I did go to school, in principle, and as we all know education is everything.

York council is giving a gentle nudge to remind all parents of soon to be Year 7’s that applications need to be in for secondary school places for September 2019 by midnight Wednesday 31st October. Parents can apply for the maximum of five schools and it is recommended that at least one of the selections be in the local catchment area.

“We are fortunate in York to have some fantastic secondary schools. Last year, 92.3 per cent of pupils in the secondary school admission round secured their first preference. We have worked hard to ensure that our schools have enough places for all applicants and will let them know about their allocated school on National Offer Day, 1 March 2019.”

Councillor Keith Myers, Executive member for education, children and young people, City of York Council.

Secondary school is the first step to little ones becoming big ones, dreams becoming realities and their initial strides towards independence. It will be their opening opportunity to discover who they are and what they want out of life. But don’t worry to much, it’s far from the end, just ask my Mum, in fact that reminds me, my fridge is empty, I’m sure her’s isn’t.
