One of York’s best-loved nursery schools has launched a public crowdfunding campaign to help them afford new equipment.
St Paul’s Nursery School are looking for £4,000 to pay for the bikes, scooters, and climbing equipment their new playground needs.
The grade II listed nursery building in St Paul’s Square, Holgate—that has been home to the iconic school since 1938 — is currently shut due to refurbishments, as the site was deemed unfit for purpose. In order to stay open, the nursery was moved across to share space with Carr Infant School in Acomb. While the Acomb school have generously gifted some outside grass, considering York’s wet climate, the space hasn’t been suitable for the outside play pupils of the school are used to. They hope this new equipment will rejuvenate things.
A spokesperson for the school said, “We cannot afford to tarmac the area so are looking at other equipment that we could buy to play with outside, particularly resources that can be brought back to St Paul’s Square when our new building is complete. If there are any businesses out there who could help, our children would be eternally grateful!”
