It’s approaching three years since a small group of volunteers, known as the Friends of New Earswick Swimming Pool, took on the day to day running and development of the swimming pool in New Earswick after it was threatened with closure by a local housing trust.
“It’s been a steep learning curve for us,” said volunteer Chris Marsden “and we’ve faced a lot of challenges along the way – the most serious was being closed for six months during the national lockdowns in 2020 and 2021. We’re a registered charity, and we receive no regular support from local authorities or our landlords – all our income comes from pool fees and donations. But we’re back open now, and alongside the swimming lessons, baby/toddler groups, junior training, disability swimming and scuba diving that take place at the pool, we’re delighted to relaunch public swim sessions, too”.
“We’re a great place to come for a swim, as our sessions are limited to 15 people at a time, so there’s plenty of space to swim or play. There’s a large play park and cafe next door, and we’re easily accessible too being on the No. 1 and 13 bus routes and having a large free car park”
Public swim sessions cost £4 per adult (£2.50 Juniors 4-17, 3 and Under Free) for a 40 minute swim and take place on a Sunday and Monday 8am – 10am, Tuesday 7pm – 9pm and Sunday 1.30pm – 3.30pm. Sessions must be pre-booked and pre-paid using www.bookwhen.com/newearswickpool. To find out more about the pool visit www.friendsofnewearswickpool.co.uk
The pool is 100% self-funded and reliant on donations. If you would like to donate and help keep the pool running, you can do so through the following channels.
