Midwife from York wins national award

Anyone who’s ever been caught out by a surprise birthday party will relate to the recent experiences of York midwife Sharon Pratt.

While on her way to what she thought was a regular meeting with colleagues at York Hospital, Sharon was presented with the prestigious Chief Midwifery Officer (CMO) silver award.

She said, “It is a lovely surprise and I feel very honoured to have been presented with the award. The best part is knowing I was nominated by my close colleagues here on the unit. My award is also a badge, so I will wear it with pride while I am at work.”

Jess Read, the Deputy Chief Midwifery Officer at NHS England, was also there to surprise Sharon with her award.

She said, “Sharon’s nomination stood out because it was clear that she had gone above and beyond in her work with a complex case and supported a woman and her family, and with staff on how to best provide care to the patient.”.
