The Archbishop of York, Dr John Sentamu is to attend and give the address at a service entitled ‘Faith, Hope and Love’ at St Mary’s Priory Church, Old Malton, YO17 7HB on Sunday 24 March at 6.30pm.
The service is to mark the 10-year anniversary of Claudia Lawrence’s disappearance in March 2009.
Cllr Joan Lawrence, who will be speaking at the service, said: “I would like to thank everyone for their support and incredible kindness over the last decade. Someone, somewhere, knows what has happened to Claudia and to countless other missing people. Not a day goes by without us wondering what has happened to our loved ones yet we are ever hopeful that we will hear something to help bring healing”.
The anniversary service will include a solo performance of the hymn ‘Amazing Grace’ by a student of Kirkham Henry Performing Arts Centre. Elly Fiorentini, a BBC York Radio Presenter, will read 1 Corinthians 13 and there will be a time of reflection listening to a favourite track of Claudia’s from ‘The Essential James Galway’.
The Archbishop, who will light a candle with Joan Lawrence at the end of the service, said: “This gathering, in which the community come together and care for each other, is an expression of God’s love for each of his children. Most of us cannot imagine the pain of not knowing what has happened to a loved one after this length of time. But the spark of God’s love that is in each of us prompts us to support and comfort those who are distressed or in need. And in that coming together we show and we experience the warmth and light of God’s love shining in the darkness”.
