Nothing is more enjoyable than the thrill of a water park or pool, especially in the warmer summer months. As much as cruising down a lazy river in Costa del Sol or swimming in the Mediterranean sounds bob on, you don’t have to catch a flight to get your dose of waterpark fun. If you fancy a paddle about, some fun activities, or even just a chilled swim with the family, there are some great places on our doorstep here in Yorkshire for you to try this summer:
North Yorkshire Water Park, Wykeham
At North Yorkshire Water Park there is an activity for all. For the adventurous, the traditional ‘Wipeout’ course is a fantastic activity and includes slides, swings, stepping stones and balance beams. Or if you’re feeling daring, why not try the brand new ‘Warrior’ course, complete with climbing walls, slides, trampolines, rollers and jumps? If there are little ones amongst your tribe, the new ‘Splash Kingdom’ is perfect for 3 – 7 years old too. And if that’s not enough, the water park is also home to an array of fun water-based activities such as kayaking, sups, wakeboarding, mini electric boats and pedalos. For more information, visit www.northyorkshirewaterpark.co.uk.
Allerthorpe Lakeland Park, Pocklington
Set in a stunning 53 acres of grounds and lakes, Allerthorpe Lakeland Park offers a variety of watersports, including paddle boarding, kayaks, canoes and an inflatable Aquapark as well as a campsite and the Lakeside cafe. Depending on the length of your visit, group size, age and abilities, the park organisers can sometimes include additional activities such as raft building and orienteering. Alpamare, Scarborough
If you’re a sucker for slides, you’ll love the ones they have at Alpamare. Jump in a four-man tube and head down the ‘Snow Storm’ or ride the ‘Black Run’. If you want a thrill, the double-tube ‘Olympic Run’ or the twisty ‘Cresta Run’ might be for you. At Alpamare, there is also a wave pool, an outdoor garden pool and a stunning outdoor infinity pool, where you can enjoy the views across the bay if you fancy something more chilled. For more information, visit www.alpamare.co.uk.
York Leisure Centre, Monks Cross
Home to the LNER stadium, the brand new York Leisure Centre is located in Monks Cross. A shallow learning pool and a six-lane, 25-metre swimming pool are available for swimming. For kids under eight years old, there is also the ‘Splash Pad’, a shallow paddling pool for toddlers with an interactive water play area and a slide.
