The Romanian Cultural Institute and Ariadne Theatre & Lab present a vibrant, satirical reimagining of The Taming of the Shrew at the York International Shakespeare Festival.
Directed by Ema Nicola, this contemporary English-language production features a talented ensemble of London-based Romanian artists exploring gender, autonomy, and the curated identities of the digital age. By reframing Shakespeare’s controversial comedy through a modern lens, the performance asks provocative questions about power and desire in 21st-century relationships.
This visually engaging performance stars Halima Habil, Maria Alexe, Alin Balascan, and Eddie Pop, challenging audiences to reconsider the true meaning of being "tamed" today.
The performance concludes with an insightful Q&A session featuring the creative team and Festival Director Philip Parr.
