Materials and Making celebrates more than six decades of work by renowned Yorkshire sculptor Harold Gosney, whose career has been defined by bold experimentation and craftsmanship.
The exhibition explores Gosney’s use of wood and metal across his practice, alongside the vital role of drawing in shaping his ideas. Drawing inspiration from his surroundings and lived experience, recurring themes include the human figure, horses and music.
Featuring over 45 works, highlights include the powerful Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, the moving Father and Son, Bam, the finely carved Jazzman made from a single block of sycamore, and a trio of drawings capturing views of nearby York Museum Gardens.
A thoughtful and engaging exhibition offering insight into the materials, methods and influences of one of Yorkshire’s most respected artists.
