First opened in 1877 as a pioneering marvel of exotic architecture and grand entertainment, this subterranean wonder, later known as Gala Land, once hosted everything from live musical acts to alligator pools and even a legendary appearance by Captain Matthew Webb.
While the physical structure was demolished in 1968, its extraordinary legacy is brought vividly back to life in this immersive exhibition. By combining motion-tracked headsets with rare archival imagery, the display recreates the unique sounds and stories of the original site, allowing visitors to walk through the history of one of the town's most legendary lost attractions.
