November can be one of the busiest months of the year. While we’re working hard to get everything in order before Christmas, it can be hard to find the time to properly look after yourself. Having a second place to go (other than work and home) like a club, society or association can be absolutely vital in improving our mental health as the winter months arrive. Here’s our top picks for the month…
York Military Wives Choir
Anyone with a passion for singing and a connection to the military is more than welcome to come along and sign up for this local choir. They’ve recently performed at big concerts in Beverley and Lincoln and are currently on the hunt for new members. Contact york@militarywiveschoirs.org to find out more information about joining.
Jorvik Folk Dance Club
If you’ve ever watched a period drama like Pride & Prejudice or Bridgerton and wondered if it was possible to learn the moves yourself — this is the group for you! Don’t worry for a second about not having enough experience, Jorvik Dance is a super welcoming environment, even if you’ve got two left feet they’ll make you feel comfortable from day one. The first session is free, it then costs £3 per evening. Call up Steve on 07961 830965 to get booked in.
York Astronomical Society
For all the stargazers amongst us, membership of this society is the perfect way to develop your passion for astronomy. Joining up will invite you into a rich community— where you’ll receive advice from fellow enthusiasts, discounted entry to public meetings and access to the society’s telescopes and equipment at the Battle Bank Farm observatory. Head to www.yorkastro.org.uk.
