Join The Club: May 2024

Join the club

York is packed to the brim full of fun clubs and associations — here are our top picks for the month.

Spirit of Harmony

This four-part men’s a cappella singing group have been based in Wetherby for just over 2 years. They sing all kinds of music from Broadway classics to Queen, all in 4-part barbershop harmony! Bring a friend and join in at Wetherby Methodist church hall every Thursday at 7.30pm. More information is available at www.spiritofharmony.co.uk, alternatively you can contact Dean on 07923 957488.

Social Yorkies

Run by its members, Social Yorkies are a varied and friendly local group who regularly organise a large variety of activities including walks, meals out, pub quizzes, and much more. The club is easy to join, safe, and welcoming to all singles, couples, locals, and anyone who is new to the area too!

If you want to see if it’s for you before committing to an annual membership, you can go along to a couple of the events and activities. Membership for a month costs £5, and the annual subscription costs £20. To find out more, email enquiries@yorkivc.club or visit the website www.yorkivc.club.

Become a Scouting Volunteer

18-months ago St Stephen’s Scout group in Acomb launched a second troop, they’re now looking for more fantastic adult volunteers to help out and join their scouting family! The roles in the group range from leading a section, to being the designated shopper— you might have to get in the queue for that one though!

Contact Becky on gsl@2ndacombscoutgroup.co.uk to find out where you’ll fit in.

Volunteer for British Heart Foundation

Whether you decide to help out at one of York’s four local BHF shops, as part of an event action team, or just by putting in a few hours per week at your workplace; what is sure is that you’ll make a real lasting difference in your community. You will meet new people, share and learn skills, all whilst helping to fund lifesaving research.

Pop into your local York store today, call 01904 563 127, or visit www.bhf.org.uk/volunteer to get started.
