If you’re looking to make friends, take up a new hobby, or get out and about more in York, there are plenty of groups and clubs to join in and around the city…
YORK ASPIRE
Meeting weekly in alternate locations (between Guppy’s Enterprise Club on Nunnery Lane and other local venues), York Aspire is aimed at local people on the moderate end of the autism spectrum, and currently consists of six members. This social support group is always on the lookout for new members, as well as volunteers keen to help out. Nurturing support and rich conversation is guaranteed! Feel free to email Richard on rchrdshls@gmail.com to register your interest or find out more.
APHASIA SUPPORTIVE DROP-IN GROUP
Taking place on the first and third Tuesdays of the month at the Gateway Centre (between 2.30-4.30pm), this informal and friendly drop-in group is run by people with aphasia to support others with the condition. Provided by the Say Aphasia charity, meetings are designed to make a difference to the lives of local people by helping them adjust to living with aphasia, and encouraging them to make new friends, gain confidence, regain independence and combat loneliness. Therapeutic activities on offer include art and singing classes. Visit www.sayaphasia.org/york to find dates of upcoming meetings.
