Thinking of joining a club? Whether you’re stuck for things to do in York, or are simply hoping to give your social life a boost, there are all sorts of groups and clubs available in and around the city. Check out our pick of some of the best clubs currently accepting new members! 

Purple Circle

Meeting every second Wednesday at the Eagle and Child (YO1 7EN), this friendly and nurturing group provides a safe and welcoming space for anyone aged 18 or over living with epilepsy, and those who care for people with the disease. As well as monthly meetups, Purple Circle also hosts regular social events, and walk-ins are more than welcome! The St Andrew Society of York

First established in 1894, this society’s goal is to champion Scottish heritage, culture, and traditional social activities in the York community, and anyone with an interest in Scotland is welcome to join. Poetry Too – York u3a

Running every third Friday of the month at the York u3a Centre (YO1 9RG), this friendly and light-hearted group offers local poets and poetry enthusiasts the chance to share and read their favourite pieces. 2 or 3 poems are explored in each session, with the theme for each meeting being decided by the group – examples of previous topics include ‘Rest and Leisure’, ‘Relationships’, and ‘Mythical Creatures’. Lucy’s Pop Choir York 

Meeting from 7.30-9.00pm every week (Mondays at Archbishop Holgate School (YO10 5ZA) and Tuesdays and Thursdays at Acomb Methodist Church (YO24 3BX)), Lucy’s Pop Choir York invites its members to reduce stress, anxiety and depression, whilst boosting endorphin levels through the power of song! Rhythm Time York

Founded in 1995, Rhythm Time offers award-winning music classes to young children, giving them the opportunity to play instruments, sing, and socialise. Rhythm Time York teachers Tori, Sarah and Gemma run a variety of Toddler, Baby, and Pre-School classes every weekday, at a range of locations across the city including Acomb Methodist Church, Osbaldwick EYFS School, New Earswick Quaker Meeting House, and Rufforth Village Institute.
