If you’re already living in York, you might think that you’re lucky to be living here, thanks to its sense of history, stunning architecture and friendly people. However, there are a few other reasons why it’s such a lucky place – and why it may, in fact, be one of the luckiest cities in the UK.

This year, the National Lottery celebrated its 25^th birthday – it’s been running since November of 1994 – and it’s been revealed that if you’re looking to win the lottery, you might want to be living in York. According to the National Lottery, York’s postcode is one of the luckiest in the country. Since the lottery started, it’s created 65 millionaires right here in York, with 10 of them winning huge jackpots in just the last three years.

An even more exciting fact is that 349 people living in the YO postcode have won at least £50,000 – to put things into perspective, that’s more than one winner every month. The National Lottery has given out more than £71 billion in prize money since it started out, and a significant amount of that, it seems, has gone to people living right here in York.

Hopefully this festive season, the city will be able to live up to its reputation once again, but we’ll have to wait and see.

You can’t deny that York is a special place – there are dozens of reasons that it keeps topping lists. Now, however, the city’s residents finally have some proof of how lucky they really are to be here.
