A bi-weekly food market in Tang Hall has won a national award, and it’s a biggie.
Food Circle York recently won the Best Shop or Market Award at the BBC Food Awards.
Headed by chef and grower Joe Fennerty, the market focuses on organic, regenerative and sustainable food production.
The award was judged by food journalist Layla Casson who also presented the award on the evening.
The market runs on Wednesdays and Saturdays at Tang Hall Community Centre and sells locally grown and produced veg, fruit, meat, bread, and dairy. There’s also locally made pastries, chutneys, preserves
and fresh street food to go.
So what is Food Circle all about? In their own words: “It’s nowt flash – sometimes chaotic, always delicious – but we believe it’s simple changes to how we grow, buy and consume our food that can transform out food system for the better.”
You’ll find the market at Tang Hall Community Centre on Wednesdays from 5pm-6.30pm, and Saturdays from 12pm-1.30pm.
