Four minute’s walk from the Minster and a stone’s throw from a fantastic flurry of iconic 17th-century buildings, Middletons Hotel on Cromwell Road is situated right at the centre of everything worth seeing in York.
However on a Sunday like ours — that reached lows of -3 degrees— quaint streets and historic sites weren’t quite what tempted us out of the house. What did was Middleton’s luxurious three-course Sunday Lunch offering— perfectly complimented by friendly and helpful staff in a much needed cosy, warm and comforting restaurant.
We kicked off our meal with creamy garlic mushrooms on sourdough bread—a choice that set a delicious tone for the rest of our experience. Our daughter cleverly opted for the prawn cocktail salad, it was a light and sweet introduction that allowed her to save space for the main event.
For the main course I indulged in the Chicken Supreme which was nothing short of a Sunday Lunch triumph — perfectly cooked chicken that melted off the bone at the slightest touch, paired with crispy potatoes and another rich and creamy sauce, while my husband opted for the roast beef. The Sunday Lunch’s signature dish usually needs no introduction, but Middletons’ version, with its tender beef and richly roasted carrots, is well deserving of praise. We then capped our meal off with a luxury sticky toffee pudding.
From the rich and creamy mushrooms all the way to the indulgent toffee sauce — a table at Middletons’ Sunday Lunch is the perfect way to spend any of the wintery weekends this January.
