When it comes to planning a night out, you might consider going out for a pizza and a game of bowling, darts, pool, or head out for a cocktail. While we are blessed that York has great options for all of those activities in abundance, there hasn’t really been a place that allows you to do all of the above at once. That was until Roxy announced that their next ballroom would be opening on Stonebow in York — the venue that combines them all, in the shape of the city’s very first ‘adult playground.’
Roxy Ballroom may open its doors to the public for the very first time tonight (the 23rd of February) but we at Your Local Link were lucky enough to be invited inside 24 hours early. We savoured their menu of expertly crafted cocktails, battled in the batting cage, and were even tempted to a couple of sessions of karaoke. Read on to hear all about why Roxy Ballroom has to be the top choice for your next night in York.
The Games
The new Roxy venue puts every game you could want to play under one roof. Spread across two brightly decorated and fun-packed floors, there’s a game for every appetite. We’ve listed in detail all of Roxy’s more unique activities, but they’ve also got space for karaoke, air hockey, beer pong, and ping pong. Read on for the rest!
- Ice-Free Curling — bringing the Winter Olympics to North Yorkshire, this Roxy exclusive combines the satisfaction of traditional ten-pin bowling with the precision and teamwork of a game of bocce or bowls. Did we mention you play on synthetic ice?
- Shuffleboard — this game involves sliding a puck into the opponent’s area of the board without falling off the end in order to score points. The person to score fifteen points first wins.
- Pool— the pool at Roxy might not be exactly what you’re used to, American pool tables are a lot larger than English Pool tables by 2 feet totalling 9 feet in total, making it easier to involve a larger group in your game!
- Crazy Pool – a genius combination of the tricks and turns you’d expect from crazy golf, and the technique of American pool. Challenge your friends as you shoot the ball with the cue through the obstacles of each table.
- Batting Cage – whether you’re a cricket fanatic or a baseball fan, ROXY’s batting cages are a one-of-a-kind experience. Whoever hits the most balls and wins the most points wins!
- Tech Darts – The interactive darts board comes equipped with cameras and sensors that track your darts, automatically score your throws, and provide an action replay of your shots.
- Duck-Pin Bowling – think traditional bowling but smaller! Because the balls are significantly less heavy than regular bowling balls, this requires precision when throwing the ball.
Food and Drink
We got to try out more than a few samples of their hand-stretched Italian focaccia pizzas and a couple of super-tasty sides which made for a brilliant introduction into their delicious menu. The full menu features Pepperoni Pizza, Chorizo and Brie Pizza, Mushroom & Truffle Pizza, Garlic & Parmesan Wings and Fries, Kickin’ Popcorn Chicken, Chilli Cheese Bites, and much more.
In terms of drinks, there are 16 different draught beer options, 17 cocktails, as well as plenty of soft drinks; all of which are easy to order from interactive screens that are dotted about the venue, within reaching distance of each game. It means you can order another round, or a snack, without even having to step away from your activity!

We’ve been looking to bring the Roxy experience to our neighbours in York for a while now and it’s great to finally be able to open the doors to our friends in the city. See you there!”
