First-class cricket comes to Clifton Park

Cricket fans rejoice: it’s not long until York Cricket Club hosts the four day Specsavers County Championship game between Yorkshire CCC and Warwickshire CCC from 17th – 20th June.

As a result the club has received a grant from the England and Wales Cricket Board to buy an electronic scoreboard, covers and sight screens.

“York have done such a fantastic job for us at Second XI level and with the Diamonds, and the quality of their pitches and infrastructure is excellent,” said Yorkshire CEO Mark Arthur. “We thought it was a great opportunity to take a game there.

“For our membership, York is our second largest catchment area outside Leeds. The fact it is a one off will capture the imagination of public.
“It is a venue definitely capable of hosting a first-class cricket match.

“When you talk to people about hosting a County Championship match, their excitement is something to behold. I think the City of York will really get behind the event.”

On site car parking is available for those coming in a car for £5 a day. Preparations for the game are well underway with 2,000 temporary seats and a 30 table Marquee already in the pipeline. Tickets for the match are on sale now through The Yorkshire CCC Ticket Office.

Although seating will be available all round the ground, spectators are welcome to bring their own chairs if they wish.

Sponsorship packages and marquee hospitality tables for the first three days are on sale now. Contact Secretary Nick Kay for more information on 07815 809596 or kaybo79@hotmail.com.
