Finding the perfect mattress

It’s really important to do your research before you buy your new mattress, least of all because they can cost you an arm and a leg, but also because a poor mattress can deprive you of sleep and leave you with a few aches and pains too. Whether you sleep on your side, back or front, we’ve broken down the mattress basics below:

Side sleeper
According to dreams.co.uk, more than half of Britain’s population of adults are side sleepers. If you’re a side sleeper, it’s recommended that you aim for a mattress that is medium in firmness, or soft to cushion your main pressure points, which include your ears, shoulders, and hips.

Front sleepers
The alignment of the spine is the main focus for front sleepers, as when you sleep on your front, your back is at risk of arching unnaturally. For the best spinal support and comfort, choosing a medium to a firm mattress made from memory foam or pocket spring is highly recommended.

Back sleepers
For back sleepers, pressure points include your shoulders, bottom, heels, and back, so you’ll want to look for a medium to very firm mattress to support you. Pocket spring mattresses, in particular, provide suitable comfort for back sleepers and they generally provide support across the whole body.
