Family-friendly walk in York

Toddle of the month banner

This mini suburban adventure is perfect for energetic little ones. Pass calm water, take on the dirt bike track and tackle a climbing boulder.

This is a lovely route for kids that are using balance bikes. There will need to be careful roadside supervision while you travel from Rawcliffe Lake to Rawcliffe Park.

Start at Rawcliffe Lake, which can be accessed from Oakdale Road. It’s a great fishing spot with plenty of ducks and geese pecking at your toes to be fed!

Head towards Rawcliffe Pavilion, then go down St. Mark’s Grove all the way to Shipton Road.

You’ll get to Rawcliffe country park after a 20-minute walk. The country park has a climbing boulder and pump tracks. Look out for the routes shown with one dot – these are the beginner level tracks (there are two). At the end of the path, you’ll end up on Rawcliffe Ings and the River Ouse, head over to the grassy bank for a picnic before looping back round to Rawcliffe Lake.
