Beginning on Monday, May 29th, the City of York Council will perform necessary maintenance on bridges over the A1237.
Both the Rawcliffe Ings Bridge (which crosses the River Ouse) and the Millfield Railway Bridge (which crosses the East Coast Main Line) will undergo construction, however, railway services won’t be impacted by the project. The work will be taken out during the night, from 8pm to 6am, seven days a week for five weeks to help with traffic flow. The hopes are that these construction plans will be completed by Monday the 3rd of July, subject to the weather.
The project will be divided into four phases so that the single-lane closure will only be in place for shorter segments of the carriageway at a time. To limit disturbance, work will be undertaken while temporary traffic signals are in place. For the whole period of the work, the speed limit will be limited to 30 mph from each roundabout for safety reasons.
These projects are a part of York’s considerable investment over the next decade, which also includes initiatives to create new homes and draw in better-paid employment.
