Summer is getting ever closer, and most of us are likely spending more time outdoors. This could mean day trips to the beach or those long country walks we are longing for. Whichever of these takes your fancy, I have three fantastic reads to get you ready for spending time outdoors throughout this Great British summer.

The Tent, The Bucket and Meby Emma Kennedy
Picture the scene… it is a warm summer in the mid 1970s, your family decides to go camping, something you have always wanted to do. Only when you finally arrive, it is a disaster. Kennedy’s hilarious and heart-warming novel about adventures with her grandma makes for an excellent read to get you in the mood for travelling this summer!

Beatrix Potter: A Life in Natureby Linda Lear
So many of us grew up reading the stories Beatrix Potter wrote, however what was the life of one of Britain’s most beloved children’s writers like? This book will take you through the story of her life, retelling her love for nature and the Lake District. This is one of my favourite recent reads, inspiring me to get outdoors into the wild British countryside which so many of us adore.

The Sun and Her Flowersby Rupi Kaur
For those of you looking for something different to read this month, this book packed with poetry is a great read! Kaur details the highs and lows of her life through poetry, from the haze of her summers to how nature has shaped her. A stunning read for any poetry lovers out there!

Feeling inspired? Keep your eyes peeled for more of Ben’s exclusive book recommendations in future issues of Your Local Link.
